Family members have gathered various items that represent their activities within the home. Friends and family may gather around a central table where the items are displayed, or all may move from room to room where the objects are usually found for a blessing of each space. A candle is used to symbolize the presence of the Lord.
The candle is lit.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world, the light no darkness can overcome. From his brightness we all receive, that our lights may shine and others may give glory to our Father in heaven.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Keys may be used to represent DEPARTING AND RETURNING
May the Lord watch over and bless all who come to this home, and all who depart from it on their various tasks, and keep them in health and safety.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Amen.
A Bible, a cross or crucifix and devotional material may represent PRAYING AND MEDITATING
May this dwelling be a house of prayer, where the Word of God holds a prominent place and the will of God is sought and done. May the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. And may the Holy Spirit kindle among you the fire of God's love.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Food items, cooking utensils and various things to wear may represent FEEDING AND CLOTHING
Consider the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, how your heavenly Father cares for them. May his providing hand be evident in this household, filling closets, cabinets and cupboards with his bounty.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Tools and toys may represent WORKING AND PLAYING
May the Lord provide you with productive work and due reward for your labors. May you experience joy in your leisure.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Photographs and photo albums may represent SHARING AND CARING
May the Lord keep you close to those you love and bring others into your circle of concern.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A pillow, and a videocassette or DVD may represent RESTING AND REFRESHING
May the forgiving love of God grant you rest and refreshment and lead you toward that eternal home which he has prepared for all who follow his Son, Jesus Christ.
Within these walls, O Lord, shine upon us with your blessing. Within each heart, let faith burn bright. And from each life, let love beam forth, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Send your Spirit upon this dwelling, O Christ, and drive out evil in all its forms. May your angels protect this home, and may all who live within these walls find your blessing all their days.
